RGC Meeting and Play List at Abilene's, April 19, 2010

♪ Jerry Carter opened the meeting with details about RGC’s successful participation in the Buffalo Guitar Show and Flea Market on Sunday, April 18. Our club was able to raise a good portion of the funding needed to underwrite the PBS radio show, “Classical Guitar Alive” on WXXI 91.5FM. Jerry then mentioned next month’s RGC meeting at Abilene on May 17, which will feature Matthew Ardizzone presenting “Total Recall: Harnessing the Power of the Mind to Enjoy Playing by Heart.” [the next RGC meeting is on Sunday, May 2 at the Tango Café—ed.] After reminding the attendees about the now available membership cards and T-shirts, Jerry concluded with a brief recap of the extremely successful Presenters’ Concert that took place on April 9 at the Harmony House in Webster.

The evening’s Round Robin then got under way with a wide range of music and playing styles. Alternate tunings were demonstrated by several players, including Ted Peck, Rick Rathbun, and Mark Grover. Ryan Bailey and John Williamson offered classical pieces. Bernie Heveron and Jerry Marshall treated the audience with standards played on Bernie’s gorgeous Gibson jazz acoustic-electric. Several original compositions were presented by Rick Rathbun and Von Martt. Ted Peck and Jerry Carter gave us our money’s worth by playing two-fer and three-fer medleys.

The post Round Robin activities continued afterward, and the attendees welcomed Tim Martin, who came in from Geneva to check out the club on Kinloch Nelson’s recommendation. In all, we had fifteen people attending.
